HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 16 (ACN) The Calixto Garcia University Hospital in Havana will celebrate its 122th anniversary with an International Convention to be held from January 22nd to the 24th with a demonstration of the important and current work of the health center.
There will be over one thousand 600 health professionals from the country, guest professors from Canada, United States, Mexico, Ecuador, Peru, Colombia and Germany in addition to representatives from Venezuela, East Timor, Belize, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guyana, Honduras, China and Haiti among others.
The Director of the hospital, Dr. Carlos Alberto Martinez Blanco said that over 700 works will be presented in the forum and highlighted that the Calixto Garcia Hospital offers services in 37 medical specialties and is a reference center in the medical assistance within the National Health System.
The issues of the 11th edition of the Convention will include trauma, head and neck, general, spinal cord and arms and legs surgeries; the assistance of critical patients; chronic illnesses, metabolism and infectious; and infirmary.
The issues also include, aging, medical technology; Natural and Traditional Medicine, health administration, medical education; and image diagnosis, pathology and laboratory, said Martinez Blanco, also deputy of the Health and Sports Commission of the National Assembly of the Peoples Power.
The scientific program includes diverse courses, workshops and meetings on knowledge of nursing technique. They will also discuss multiple chronic conditions in senior citizens and a symposium related with trauma surgery among others.
The Calixto Garcia will carry out courses this week on current Geriatrics; good practice clinics; most frequent emergencies in General Medicine and the prevention of cardiovascular risks and management of chronic illnesses in the primary attention level, he said.
Since its foundation on January 23rd, 1896, the Calixto Garcia University Hospital, considered a university and symbol of Cuban medicine has been characterized by the continued formation of new generation of professionals for Cuba and the world.
