Deputies Highlight the Need to Improve Process of Production

HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 4 (ACN) The First Vice Minister of Agriculture, Julio Andres Garcia expressed on Monday at the Agriculture and Food Commission of the National Assembly that the sector must improve its policies through organization, technology and production in order to have a major impact in the country´s economy.

Before the deputies of the commission, who are assisting at the first meeting corresponding to the 9th Legislature held at the Convention Center, Garcia insisted in the importance in guaranteeing the formation of the qualified technical force as part of sustainable development.

The official highlighted the need to produce food that would satisfy the population´s demand, industry, tourism and export aimed at replacing imports.

It is also important that producers use the land, water and agricultural implements efficiently in order to reach higher levels of production, he said.

Garcia commented that they will purchase machinery and important technology this year to obtain healthy and high quality crops in order to make the work easier.

Regarding the damages caused by Sub Tropical Alberto, the First Vice Minister of Agriculture referred that despite others, rice was affected by the intense rain, but they will comply with the national consumption plan.

He expressed that they are working on an action plan and Development Programs aimed at looking for superior yields of the crops like bean, rice and coffee.

Regarding fruits, he said that although the levels of delivery still does not correspond with the growing demand of tourism actions are underway aimed at expanding the variety of fruits, among them citrus.

He offered information to the legislators on the development programs underway regarding agriculture, cattle, poultry, tobacco and forestry.
