Renowned Musician from Las Tunas Dies at the age of 76

LAS TUNAS, Cuba, Aug 7 (acn) Cristino Marquez Reyes, one of the most prestigious musicians in the province of Las Tunas passed away on Monday in the eastern city where his work and contribution to culture and to the new generation were recognized.

He dedicated half a century to music as composer, director of concert bands and professor in different institutions, among others.

Marquez was founder and first President of the provincial branch of the Artists and Writers Association, entity that granted him the Artist of Merit distinction while the local government issued a resolution to declare him Illustrious Son of Las Tunas.

Representing Cuba, he took the island's culture to Angola and Haiti while he was very loved by his colleagues and people in general in his eastern province for his professionalism, good character, responsibility and humbleness.
