The twentieth contest of young jazz musicians will begin in Havana next November 16, with the turrnout of 178 artists from nine provinces of the country.
As the founder of the event Alexis Vázquez said two decades ago, “Jojazz is an undeniable reality which has allowed to see the Cuban jazz movement from another viewpoint. Its winners and competitors show their mettle in all continents.”
The Avenida theater, the Bertolt Brecht Center, Café Miramar and Jardines del Mella will host this event. Among the presentations highlights the opening concert to be staged by the Young Jazz Band, directed by maestro Joaquín Betancourt.
The musical interpretation contests and the jam sessions will bring the public closer to the under 30 year-old musicians. The awards ceremony will take place on November 19. As members of the board will be Michel Herrera, Joaquín Borges-Triana, Rolando Luna, Joaquín Betancourt y Pancho Amat, among others.
