Havana, Cuba.- Cartoonists from 43 countries will compete in Cuba from May 31 to April 3 at the 21th International Graphic Biennial in San Antonio de los Baños, the Organizing Committee announced Thursday.
With a constant call to defend peace, the Circle of Humorists and cartoon stories of the Cuban Union of Journalists (UPEC) and the Humor Museum in San Antonio de los Baños, foster this meeting between foreign and Cuban professionals in Havana and the neighboring province of Artemisa.
The jury this year has received more than 1,300 works by artists from 55 nations and allowed in competition 299, from authors from 43 countries, said one of the members of the Organizing Committee, journalist Jorge Legañoa.
The countries with the greatest number of works are Cuba, Turkey and Iran; to these are added Brazil, Argentina, China, Uzbekistan, Puerto Rico, Italy, India, Germany, Colombia, Romania, Indonesia, Spain, Egypt, Estonia, Serbia, United States, Peru, Ukraine and Poland, among others.
Genres such as Personal Cartoon, Photography, Cartoon, Political Satire and General Humor will be assessed by a jury composed of Belgian Cecile Bertrand, US Liza Donnelly, Salvadoran Carlos Alfredo Ruiz, Japanese Kosei Ono and Cubans Zenaida Manes and Alfredo Martirena.
The Biennial has traditionally been a party and we want to keep it that way, said Legañoa in a press conference, after informing about concerts, tributes, audiovisual projections and exhibitions opening included in the program.
The jury , on April 3, will award three prizes for each category of the 21th International Biennial Exhibition, as well as to the Grand Prize, a Popularity Prize awarded by the public and several collateral prizes.
