Ciego de Avila, Cuba, Jun 16 (ACN) A women from Ciego de Avila gave birth to triplets through a C section at the Dr. Antonio Luaces Iraola Provincial Hospital.
According to health authorities, this happens once every 7 thousand 500 pregnancies.
The mother is 26 year old Irianni Medina Cepero and works as a dentist at the Belkis Sotomayor Policlinic, according to the Invasor website.
Father is Miguel Dorta Zayas, computer science specialist in the municipal health center. The babies are Britney, Brian Miguel and Brianna.
Dr. Irianni Medina received assistance in the Infertility Department of the hospital and Dr. Darvel Calzadilla did an artificial insemination process which resulted in triples.
As stipulated by the Cuban Health Ministry in these cases, the mother was hospitalized at 13 weeks into her pregnancy in a Maternal Home in Ciego de Avila until 32 weeks when she was transferred to the maternity ward of the hospital where she received a C section at 34 weeks of pregnancy.
The triplets are now at the Neo-Natal Ward of the Provincial hospital, under the care of medical personnel and a very professional nurse that will follow the development of the newborns, reported the website.
The multi-disciplinary group that assisted in the C section were Gynecologists Darvel Calzadilla and Gesler Beltran; anesthesiologists Maikel Rodriguez and Lisbet Borroto; neo natal nurses Maria del Carmen Thomson and Norys Silvia Garcia and Neo Natal specialists Yenisey Morffi, Giselle Gonzalez and Dayle Machado.
The babies are now in the hands of Drs. Midiala Cervantes, Mayuri Garcia, Yonaika Rodriguez and Fernando Fernandez, head of the ward. The previous triplets born in Cuba was in September of 2015.
