Double-headers in Cuban baseball end with split wins




 HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 11 (acn) The two double-header programs played on Sunday between Pinar del Río-Las Tunas and Matanzas-Industriales ended up both in honors division, so the standings of the 57th Cuban National Baseball Series didn´t change.

At first hour, the leader Las Tunas won away 10-2 over Pinar del Rio, with Yoalkis Cruz getting his 14th win of the season, leader, and offensive highlight to SS Alexander Ayala, who hit 2 for 2, with two homers, 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored.

But in the second game, Pinar del Rio took revenge by winning 3-2, mainly through 1B William Saavedra´s walk off double.

This was the first win to ace reliever Livan Moinelo after coming back from Japanese Professional League (NPB), match in which he struck out 5 opponents in 3 innings.

Meanwhile, at Victoria de Giron Park, Industriales beat away Matanzas 12-4 in the first game with an attack of 18 hits that included homers by OF Stayler Hernandez and 2B Wilfredo Aroche, both coming from the bench, while OF Javier Camero hit 3 for 4 with two RBIs.

Reliever Jose Pablo Cuesta earned the win and left-hander Yoannis Yera took the loss despite achieving 9 strikeouts, leader, but allowed 8 runs and 13 hits in seven innings.

In the second match, the Crocodiles won 11-4, with a decisive seventh frame where they scored seven runs, which included a three-run homer by C Osvaldo Vazquez.

The match between Granma and Artemisa was suspended because of the rain.

After those results, Las Tunas remains on top of the standings with advantage of one game over Matanzas that is followed by Industriales (6.5), Granma (7.5), Pinar del Río (10.5) and Artemisa (11.5).
