HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 11 (acn) Oscar Pino, bronze medalist in the Paris 2017 World Championships, was chosen as the best Cuban wrestler this year.
Replacing the triple Olympic monarch Mijain Lopez, who took a year of active rest; Pino was crowned at national and Pan-American level, and finished third in the universal contest with balance of four wins and only one loss.
The announcement was made at the traditional wrestling awards gala, which involved the officials of that sport and the specialized media.
The distinction as best coach went to Julio Mendieta, head of the coaching staff of the men's sector, while Eduardo Martinez was elected as the most outstanding referee.
The 10 best Cuban wrestlers turned out to be the men Reineri Andreu, Yowlys Bonne, Alejandro Valdes, Daniel Gregorich, Miguel Martinez, Yurieski Torreblanca, Yurisandy Hernandez and Yasmany Lugo and women Yudaris Sanchez and Lianna de la Caridad Montero, while there were special mentions to Mabelkis Capote (w) and Reineris Salas (m).
