HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 18 (acn) Cuban Yoandy Beltran won last Sunday a bronze medal in the men´s squat event of powerlifting of the 2019 Special Olympics Summer World Games, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, where the also powerlifter, but woman, Yaritza Parrado won two gold and same amount of silver medals last Friday, first Cuban medals in this major competition.
According to JIT sports publication, Beltran raised 130 kilograms to achieve Cuba´s fifth medal in the contest, all in powerlifting.
Beltran also ranked fourth in the deadlift event with 155 kg.
The Caribbean island still has to participate in athletics and swimming.
The 2019 Special Olympics Summer World Games, running from March 14 to 21, gathers 7,500 athletes from 190 countries, more than 3,000 coaches and 20,000 volunteers.
The calendar includes 24 sports and half a million spectators are expected to watch the Games.
