SOCHI, Russia.—It could have been a premonition of José Martí when, he highlighted the willpower and bravery of the “people from the Kingdom of Anam”, today Vietnam, in his book the Golden Age for children, since that nation and Cuba are united by a past of struggle and resistance and the permanent fight for preserving their conquests.
That contact, made possible after the Triumph of the Cuban Revolution, had a new dimension this Tuesday evening, when the youth delegations of both countries held a fraternal meeting of solidarity and exchange, as part of the 19th World Festival of Youth and Students taking place in this city.
After having considered this day as special, the deputy member of the Vietnam’s Communist Party and First Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Young Communist League Le Quoc Phong said that he expects that Cuba and the Asian country will walk side by side in the future and will keep strengthening the mutual solidarity and respect.
We believe there is no other person who have had a greater influence on the youth than Fidel, so we are going to keep up with the tradition of past generations about strengthening our bilateral ties, said the young leader, who added that the vietnamese people remember a phrase of Fidel when the situation was tougher and adverse given the power of the enemy: “For Vietnam we are willing to give our own blood.”
First Secretary of the Young Communist League Susely Morfa González talked about the good feelings toward that nation, which is a symbol of struggle against imperialism. She also thanked this display of fraternity and recalled the great significance the visit to Cuba by a Vietnamese delegation last August had for the work of the organization.
During the meeting – attended by the delegations of the two countries- the representatives exchanged gifts, stories, ideas and enjoyed an excellent cultural tribute, where the culture of the two countries was exhibited.
Thus, the Vietnamese delegates enjoyed the presentations of Buena Fe, the Casabe musical project, and Duani Ramos, leader of Moncada band; in addition to singer songwriter Eduardo Sosa and singer Annie Garcés – all of them members of the artistic delegation to Sochi-; and the Cubans enjoyed, among others, songs dedicated to Ho Chi Minh.
