University in Villa Clara for World Sustainable Development

SANTA CLARA, Cuba, October 12.— The 1st International Convention of the Marta Abreu Central University of Las Villas scheduled from October 23rd to the 27th will include the defense of a sustainable development for the world ratified in each action of the higher education institution.

Member of the organizing committee, Ernesto Alvarez Gil expressed on Thursday during a press conference that the event aims at gathering in one single event several scientific sectors and knowhow.

The event, to be held at the Hotel Melia Marina Varadero will include issues like electric engineering, construction, sociology, psychology, services and the business system in addition to the academic sector both Cuban and foreign.

According to Alvarez Gil, over 800 participants from some 17 countries have confirmed their assistance to the event, among them Japan, Colombia, Germany, France, South Korea, US, Poland, Chile, Belgium and Mexico.

The program also includes master conferences centered in the National Association of Economists and Accountants and the Ministries of Tourism and Higher Education, among others.

The event will also allow the signing of agreements and the preparation of scientific cooperation projects between the University of Las Villas and other counterparts.

Among its main strengths, said the specialist, is the chance to show the world the achievements of the country´s science sector.

Founded on November 30th, 1952, the University of Las Villas will celebrate its 65th anniversary with pride with among the largest multidisciplinary characteristics in the country turning the center as a reference center on the island as well as its scientific-technical field.

Japanese Delegation Condemns US Blockade against Cuba

CAMAGUEY, Cuba, October 13.— Japanese representatives condemned on Friday in Camaguey the US economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba.

Viaje Mesa Redonda is the name of the Japanese delegation that is part of the Tenemos Memoria (We have Memories) activities which includes Solidarity vs. Blockade organized by the Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, ICAP.

The condemnation of the US aggression unites many of the solidarity groups that visit the Caribbean island and with time will become another nation in which ICAP will welcome each year.

During their stay in Camaguey, the Japanese representatives exchanged with students from the Alvaro Morell High School discussed issues related to the genocidal policy, reported cadenagramonte.cu website.

The President of the group, Reiko Kato, said that they are proud to personally experience the reality of the Cuban people.

The Japanese visitors informed the members of a community in Camaguey about their experiences on the group’s over ten-year work disseminating the reality of the Cuban people and the number of obstacles of the blockade on the island, reported Adelante newspaper in its digital version.

As part of their tour through the country, which will end on October 17th, the Japanese delegation traveled to Bayamo in Granma province after having visited Havana, Santa Clara, Cienfuegos, Sancti Spiritus and Trinidad.

The group, made up by members of different Japanese solidarity organizations, is scheduled to visit the Santa Ifigenia Cemetery in Santiago de Cuba to pay tribute to the leader of the Revolution Fidel Castro and later will visit Holguin.

Cuban Larduet appears Leader in All-Around Qualifying Event of World Artistic Gymnastics Championships

HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 3 (acn) Cuban Manrique Larduet remains as leader after finishing 3 out of the 4 subdivisions of the Men´s Individual All-Around Qualifying contest of the 2017 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships taking place in Montreal, Canada.
Larduet, silver medalist two years ago, totaled 86, 699 points and is so far escorted by Chinese Routeng Xiao (86, 297), Russian David Belyavskiy (85, 839), Japanese Kenzo Shirai (85, 697) and Ukranian Oleg Verniaiev (85, 431), according to the official website of the contest.
The remaining group ends up today in the morning and the final will be next Thursday, while the apparatus finals, where Larduet should qualify in at least three events, will take place next Saturday.
Cuba was also represented yesterday by Randy Leru, who only competed in three of the six apparatus and achieved his best performance in the horizontal bar where he scored 14, 000 units and ranks fifth so far.
Marcia Videaux and Yesenia Ferrera will be Cuba´s other representatives, but they will just compete in two apparatus each of the women´s event, which qualifying tournament starts today.
Videaux, gold medalist in the vault event of a World Cup, is the trump card of the Caribbean nation in among women of this tournament.

Cruise Ships to Expand at Maria la Gorda

PINAR DEL RIO, Cuba, October 11. — The President of Viajes Cuba, Jose Manuel Bisbe York, highlighted on Wednesday in Pinar del Rio the importance of expanding cruise ships at the Guanahacabibes Peninsula, located in the country’s most western region marked with beauty and virginity.

In statements to the press, he said that there is a high demand of this tourism modality at Maria la Gorda beach in the previous six stages and there is experience and major availability of resources to guarantee a pleasant stay in that region with quality services to visitors.

The contact was held after the conclusion of a meeting in which preparations for the upcoming period was analyzed, headed by Commander of the Rebel Army, Julio Camacho Aguilera, member of the Central Committee and Director of the Guanahacabibes Comprehensive Development Office (ODIG), which coordinates the actions in the beautiful peninsula and unexpected legends.

The General Director of Cubanacan Travel, Mercedes Abreu Mesa, said that current ships visiting the region repeat their visits while others are joining in for the first time. The visitors will have different options like the Footsteps of Tobacco, hiking, bike trips and other initiatives.

The Footsteps of the Honey, she said, is an attraction in Guanahacabibes that has not been promoted much and we are expecting to slowly insert the project in the region.

She said that Viajes Cuba reported 89 docks last year with over 30 ships, among them cruises, mega yachts, and other small and medium size vessels some with over 900 passengers and the challenge is to increase in the upcoming season.

The specialist explained that this type of tourism is not complicated; leaves good earnings for the country and generally, the visitors are older adults.

She referred to the importance to achieve attracting mega yachts and cruisers that depart from Tampa to make it easy to reach the region and it becomes a terminal for those vessels.

During the meeting, the specialists discussed ways to guarantee the conservation of nature and safety of the travelers.

Colonial Art Museum: 50 Years in Defense of Heritage

SANCTI SPIRITUS, Cuba, Oct 10 (acn) The Colonial Art Museum, first institution of its type created in the center of the island is celebrating half a century on Tuesday with a broad program of activities which includes an exchange of decorative arts among several provinces.

The program of activities has been intense focused in getting the younger generation to appreciate one of the most significant installations in the city due to the architectural values and rich collection treasured in the center.

In statements to ACN, Marta Cuellar, Director of the installation, which was constructed in the 18th century in the heart of the villa, said that one of the main activities of the birthday celebration is an exchange with specialists in other territories on the process of decorative arts.

According to Cuellar, this center had some challenges in its conservation that took place last May and was also directed in the specialization of those that will protect the precious pieces.

Gloria Santos, specialist of the Vice President of the Museums of the National Council of Cultural Heritage, said that the collections are complex because one must become an expert of the art work in order to understand them and place them in the right space.

She said that due to its value, many identify the decorative art with good taste, beauty, so the specialist must be prepared to take care of the pieces.

Santos Luna said that they have seen the organization and seriousness that has characterized the work of the museum in Sancti Spiritus but also other experiences underway in Villa Clara with a catalog of verses that can attract more people.

A presentation of artists, designers and artisans got together Tuesday night at the Serafin Sanchez Valdivia park to present some of the most genuine collection of the installation like clothes, traditional tropical fans, stain glass windows, lamps and musical instruments.

The Museum of Colonial Art in Sancti Spiritus opened to the public on October 10th, 1967 is one of the centers linked to the community and among its valuable objects is its exquisite chinaware and its furniture.
