La película Bohemian Rhapsody ha significado para las nuevas generaciones el descubrimiento de una de las bandas de rock más significativas en la historia de la música y de su principal vocalista, el extraordinario Freddie Mercury, fallecido en 1991. Fundada en 1970, en Londres, la integraron, además, el guitarrista Brian May, el baterista Roger Taylor y el bajista John Deacon.
Bohemian Rhapsody, ese clásico del rock, formó parte del segundo disco de Queen titulado A Night at the Opera (1975), gracias al cual la agrupación, de gran influencia en el desarrollo del hard rock y el heavy metal, entró en un primer plano de la escena musical.
Queen, que aún se mantiene activa (May y Taylor lo hacen posible), recibió en 2018 el premio Lifetime Achievement Award, un galardón de los Grammys que rinde homenaje a aquellos artistas que hicieron contribuciones de gran importancia. Grabó en total 15 álbumes de estudio, siete en vivo y numerosas recopilaciones. Con unas ventas estimadas de 200 millones de discos, es uno de los grupos más exitosos de todos los tiempos. Su compilatorio Greatest Hits (1981) es todavía el más vendido en el Reino Unido.
